Villa Rieteiland-Oost

Architect: CS Interieurdesign Cyntia Sombogaard

Location: Amsterdam

Category: Private House

On a self-build plot on IJburg, Rieteiland Oost, Cynthia Sombogaard had the unique opportunity to realize her own house. She already envisioned the interior in detail. That is why she has taken on the challenge of designing the exterior so that they match up to each other. The starting point: a very light house with open structure, unity and connection to the outside.

On the street side, the house has a fairly subdued image. However, the garden side provides a surprising contrast: a completely transparent and open character where the outside and inside completely merge into one another. As a result, even rooms on different floors and outside terraces have a direct visual connection with each other.

The interior forms the basis instead of the exterior. All spaces were first worked out in detail to subsequently determine the dimensions of the exterior walls.

The heart of the house is the atrium and from this point an L-shape is the routing to all spaces and this is reinforced by the connection with the outside terrace. The material has also been thought through in detail to connect interior and exterior. The glass balustrade of the mezzanine continues in a straight line in the balustrade on the balcony and the difference in level in the home continues on the outside terrace.

Both exterior and interior are made from high-quality, durable and timeless materials.

The ventilated façade consists of large ceramic slates in a dark brown mixed color. The slates show a different shade of color each time. They give a natural look to the home that therefore fits perfectly into its environment.

Through the huge windows on the southwest side, the natural environment is drawn to the home.
